Talavera tiles can me classified in three main categories depending on their style and design. The most used size for talavera tiles is 4" x 4" because the design can be better appreciated than in a smaller size.
Raised Relief Talavera tiles are a new kind of talavera tiles that are made with a painting techinc that makes a texture on the tile. Also, these clay tiles are made at higher temperatures than traditional talavera tiles and that makes them more resistant and durable. The size of these tiles is 4" x 4" and their best matching colors are the Solid Matte Color Tiles.
Saltillo floor tiles are those that have a more rustic style and they usually came in different shades of color, from yellow to rich orange. Due to that they are flooring tiles, it is more common to use bigger tiles than the decorated talavera tiles. The most commonly used size in Saltillo tiles is 12" x 12" and are almost 1" thick. To preserve their rustic beauty they need to be sealed to prevent water absortion and staining. Special care is needed when installing.
