Saltillo Tiles are one of the most famous products made in the north area of Mexico. They vary in color and shape. Tiles are shaped either by pressing quarried clay into a wooden frame to create smooth surface and edges, or carving out the desired shape to make a square edge and a more rustic look. Depending on the raw tile's placement among other tiles at the time of firing, its color ranges from yellow to rich orange and terra-cotta red.The most common size of Saltillo tile is 12" x 12" and are almost 1" thick. To preserve their rustic beauty they need to be sealed to prevent water absortion and staining. Special care is needed when installing.
