The roots of today Talavera pottery and tiles goes back to the 13th century era in Europe. Many of today's designs were influenced by Spain's Talavera de la Reina, Chinese porcelain, Italian art, Meddle Eastern and indigenous Mexican cultures. It was introduced to Mexico in the 16th century, where it is still made in family-owned workshops (talleres). The finest Mexican Talavera are handcrafted in a vibrant mix of colors and designs reflecting their roots.
Skilled artisians use traditional methods followed for generations to make these sinks. Our sinks are made of a mixture of selected clay and ceramic, mixed, cured, crafted, and fired in an time-consuming process to ensure great durability (usually 12 hours). The glazed layer is made from traditional mineral-based coloring process without modern chemical-based colors. Then a second firing secures a permanent bond between the clay and the glaze. These gives them a great heat and humidity resistense.
